TETRANEURA ULMI
Fig 1
DESCRIPTION: An aphid induced gall that is fig-like in appearance, lime green in colour and reaches up to 15mm in height. The asexual females leave the galls when mature and breed on grass roots through the summer months. Winged forms return to the Elms later in the year to breed with numerous wingless offspring born. Single eggs are laid on the leaves and during the following spring asexual female nymphs hatch out and start the process all over again. DISTRIBUTION: Scattered throughout Britain. HABITAT: Found on leaves of various Elm species.
